Hoods in School

Dear Parents and Guardians,

This morning we had a brief school wide assembly to address students wearing hoods in school.  This year, we, along with other middle and high schools across the country, have seen an increase in vapingamong students.  We have also learned recently that students are using the wearing of hoods to conceal vaping at school.  This is a major safety concern.  As such, we have told students that they are no longer allowed to wear their hoods in school.

As I explained in the assembly this morning, we feel the need to take this step in an effort to protect the safety of students.  We know that the number of students vaping is still a very small percentage of our overall student population.  However, if we can take a simple step like this and make it more challenging for students to be using substances, it is a step that we need to take.  Most students this morning responded very respectfully and understand, even if they are unhappy with, the change.

Thank you in advance for helping us to make our school a safe one for all students.

Take care,
Tristan Upson
