Next week is the final week of school. This week was the final concert and over the last two weeks our kids headed out on final field trips. Next week there are evening events every night of the week. It is funny because when you talk about the end of the school year, you hear words like “wrapping up” and “winding down,” but as teachers and parents alike can attest to, it does anything but “wind down.” “Barrels toward the finish” maybe, or “races to the end.”

As parents, the last couple of weeks of school are overwhelming. Personally, I have fed my kid Lunchables for dinner twice this week (and, honestly, gotten takeout the other nights…). There are so many events and commitments in the last weeks that we are all rushing around just getting through each day. It is hard to remember to stop and appreciate what all this rushing around is for--the celebration of another year: the growth that has occurred, the risks that have been taken, and the memories that have been made.

So let me stop for a minute now and let you know how much we appreciate you. Thank you for showing up for all of our evening events. Thank you for dropping off the forgotten flutes and backpacks. Thank you for sending in lunches (even in the last week when the only food left in your house is a stale granola bar). Thank you for cheering your kids on, encouraging them to try again when they make mistakes, and being an integral part of our HMMS community. One more week--you can do it!

Important News from the Nurses Office

Please be aware that on Friday, June 7th, the school nurse will be sending home (with your child in his/her backpack) any medications that we have had here at school for your student. This will include Epipens, inhalers, emergency medications, your child's personal supply of Tylenol or ibuprofen, prescription medications, etc. For safety, PLEASE make sure to retrieve these medications from your child as soon as he/she gets home on the last day of school. If you prefer to come and pick the medications up on the last day of school rather than having them sent home with your child, please call our school nurse at 802-359-4889 to make those arrangements.

8th Grade Grad Dance

The 8th grade Grad Dance is fast approaching on June 1st! The Grad Dance is a special night for HMMS 8th graders. It is a semi-formal dance, held from 7-9:30pm at the middle school--we have generally seen students wearing short/tea-length dresses or shirt and tie with shorts. From 7-7:30, students and families are invited to come and take pictures (outside hopefully if the weather cooperates), then the dance happens from 7:30-9:30. Admission is free and snacks are provided. Normal school dance rules apply and students are expected to stay for the whole time or be picked up by a parent. Please arrive promptly at 9:30 to pick up your 8th grader. The Grad Dance is one of the highlights of the year--we love seeing all our 8th graders dressed up and looking so grown up! Looking forward to seeing you all!

Hartford Performing Arts Camp

Calling all performers!!! Registration is open for Hartford Performing Arts Camp 2019!

HPAC is during the week of August 5-9 at Hartford High School. Students entering grades 6-9 are eligible to be campers. Don't miss this fabulous opportunity to engage in the performing arts with our awesome community of students. This camp is open to both Hartford residents and non-residents. Apply at the Hartford Town Parks and Rec Department.

See the attached FLYER for more information!

The week ends with a public performance (everyone is welcome) on Friday, August 9 at 3:00 in the HHS Gym (ice cream social to follow!).
